Have Come To Love The New Doctor
Have only been a Doctor fan since this new 2005 reincarnation began with Christopher Eccleston. Didn't expect to care about the 11th Doctor. David Tennant is "My Doctor," but Matt Smith brings a new and dynamic energey to the character that makes me want to know what will happen next. It took somee time for me to like the new companion, Amy Pond. But once I knew that they weren't going to replay the Rose/Doctor love thing, I began to care about her. Love that there is a second companion in her new husband, Rory. That addes a new dimension to the story for me, and the character of Riversong coming back helped me to stay connected also.Since the new executive producer is Steven Moffat, I knew the quality of the stories would be excellent because he wrote my favorite episodes (Girl in the Mirror, Blink, Silence in the Library, and Forest of the Dead) and I wasn't disappointed. There is humor, excitement and mystery. I just downloaded this entire series from video on...

A New Doctor ...And We're Off To A Great Start
I don't usually write reviews but after just three episodes I'm really enjoying this new season of Dr. Who. So far Matt Smith's Doctor seems to be continuing along the path Tennant started down while adding his own twists to the character. As for the new companion combine Rose and Donna into a hot young Scottish redhead and you've got Amy Pond. Throw in a revamped Tardis, new SFX, and a new generation of Daleks and I'd say we're off to a great start. Although I'd be willing to bet the Fanboys will find something to whine about.

Product Description

UNIT is called in when an important diplomat is attacked in his own home - by a man who vanishes into thin air! The Doctor and Jo spend a night in the 'haunted' house and meet the attackers, who have 'time-jumped' back from the 22nd century in the hope of changing history. Travelling forward in time, the Doctor and Jo find themselves trapped in a future world where humans are slaves and the Daleks have already invaded. Using their ape-like servants, the Ogrons, to maintain order, the Daleks are now the masters of Earth. As the Doctor desperately works to discover what has happened to put history off-track, the Daleks plan a time-jump attack on the 20th century. Featuring the Third Doctor as played by Jon Pertwee, with his companion Jo Grant and the UNIT organization commanded by Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, this novel is based on a Doctor Who story which was originally broadcast from January 1-22, 1972. Obey What You Are Told In This Review!
I was initially less than thrilled about the idea of this book when I first heard about it. After all, air one more Doctor Who episode regarding the Daleks, and this book can easily become redundant. But after reading most of this, I must admit, it's still a good read for the Dalek fan.Realistically, it's not perfect. But realistically, what is? The authors try to make sense of the Daleks' convoluted time line, and do this reasonably well, even though they embellished a bit. And since I never tried to publish a book on this matter, my applause to them for trying.Additionally, since there is some insight to some of the behind the scenes information on various episodes, I gained a further appreciation for them. For example, why was Terry Molloy's masque so different from the previous one? This has now been brought to light. And poor David Gooderson...Aside from this, I thought the scattered info on Dalekmania was, well, too scattered, and...

A good addition to a Doctor Who reference library
Doctor Who, certainly as the longest running sci fi series (as far as true fans are concerned), needs references. Since we are discussing a program that has history since November of 1963 something like the Dalek Handbook is very handy. In this book Tribe provides a good reference on the Daleks, Davros, and the evolution of this foe of the Doctor and the Time Lords that beats anything else out there. Is it perfect? No. But it is done very well in the style of his previous TARDIS handbook. Any fan of the series should have this book along with the TARDIS handbook.I certainly hope the publisher and authors would add a couple more volumes to this series on perhaps a few other topics. I would suggest the following additional volumes:Cybermen Handbook (on original and alternate universe cybermen)Sontaran HandbookThe Time Lords and their Renegades Handbook (cover the Master, the Rani, Romana, Rassilon, Omega etc)

A Great Visual Guide
I actually got this for my oldest son. He likes Doctor Who a lot (it helps his mom is sort of a scifi geek) and he has always liked the Daleks. I was surprised at how much fun it was to go through the book together and how much I enjoyed it as well. I thought I knew a lot about the Daleks, but I guess I didn't! Perhaps one of the best parts was that although it presented a lot of information it also had a lot of pictures and graphics which made it an enjoyable read for both of us together. There is apparently a TARDIS handbook too that I'll have to track down now for us.

Customer Review

New Doctor, but brilliant!
I grew up with my dad watching the original Doctor Who series and it was pretty good. Then I happened upon the new one a few years back on SciFi channel! I was hooked after that. Ive seen and own all of season 1-4. And I loved the old doctor as manyothers did... So when the announced that there would be a new doctor I was a little worried that he wouldnt do the show justice. However I was totally wrong! He is great. Alot like David Tennant (the 10th Dr) but with his own corks thrown into the mix. His new companion Amy is also a great addition. So far this season is wonderful! :)

Product Description

Equipped with space suits, golf clubs and a flag, the Doctor and Rose are planning to live it up, Apollo mission-style, on the Moon. But the TARDIS has other plans, landing them instead in a village on the south coast of England; a picture-postcard sort of place where nothing much happens. Until now... An archaeological dig has turned up a Roman mosaic, circa 70 A.D., depicting mythical scenes, grapes - and a Dalek. A few days later a young woman, rushing for work, is knocked over and killed by a bus, then comes back to life. It's not long before all hell breaks loose, and the Doctor and Rose must use all their courage and cunning against an alien enemy - and a not-quite-alien accomplice - who are intent on destroying humanity. Roman Daleks?
The Tenth Doctor and Rose plan to play some golf on the Moon but end up on the south coast of England in a bland, boring town which has nothing going on. Or so they thought. It seems arhaeologists have found a Roman mosaic from 70 AD. It shows scenes from ancient England, people, grapes and, yes, a Dalek. Then a dead girl comes back to life. Then the archaeologists find a...well, that would be telling. The story is short, swift and, because it has Daleks in the plot, delightful. The book shows that Gareth Roberts knows general Dr. WHO? history (with the use of a Time Ring) and Dalek history (as he uses the idea of the Dalek Factor at one point).Too bad it took so long to get to me - I ordered it in April! While having 104 pages it took me less than an hour to read. Frankly, I would have liked a little more story for my money.

Pretty Cool...
This is a very quick read that feels like a David Tennant episode; and the Tennant episodes are very fast-paced.The story is simple: The Doctor and Rose are going to play golf on the moon, but end up in London; and find a Dalek in an ancient Roman picture. What occurs is a race to stop another Dalek that is looking to exterminate the human race, and instill a plan for domination of the universe. This may be a book I pick every now and then to read; and, I may be looking for other quick reads in the Doctor Who universe.

It was okay, but don't expect too much
This is a REALLY fast, light read that any fan of Doctor Who will enjoy as long as you just don't expect too much. This is the first Dr. Who book I've read, and I downloaded a couple just out of curiosity. The writing is very plain and straightforward, failing to capture a lot of the wit and energy on full display on the BBC television series. Sure it was fun to read about Rose and The Doctor, but it didn't give me any extra insight into their characters, nor did it provide a story that any fan of the series will find very original. It was way too short, and I just wish I could have seen a bit more of the style and finesse I was expecting. I would give it two stars, but it's The Doctor for pete's sake, and any fan will surely find SOMETHING here to enjoy.
